Ian is in charge of fleet engineering across the company, as well as our workshops in Aberlour.
With a long history in the commercial vehicle fleet maintenance industry Ian has accumulated a vast array of certificates to prove that he doesn’t expect his staff to do what he hasn’t done himself in the past. His previous employers include the soft drinks arm of Bass Brewing, namely Corona Soft Drinks and Britvic Soft Drinks, Richard Lawson Car Delivery Group and Howie of Dunlop before moving to McPherson in 1999. Ian recently received the coveted award for Fleet Manager of the Year for 2008 from the Scottish Transport News. Well done Ian!
He is largely responsible for pushing forward spirit industry standards in the design and health and safety specifications of double deck vans and tanks. Currently, Ian is pushing for DfT approval for the pressure testing of ADR spirit tanks under flammable liquids class 3.
Ian also sat on the Scottish Whisky Association transport committee to advise on the future standard of tanks and double deck vans. He is also Chairman of the FTA/VOSA Operator Liaison Committee, set up to improve the condition of Scotland’s commercial vehicle and trailer fleet on our roads and in the VOSA Test Stations.
Originally from Paisley but spent much of his married life in Ayrshire before moving to Elgin, Ian’s commitment to the industry has never changed since his induction into management in 1984. His favourite saying is “service it and make it new again”. It’s pleasing to know that these words have carried him well through the years.
A husband to Sally, father of three and Grandfather of four, Ian’s leisure time and finances are largely spent giving what he can, as often as he can and with the greatest enjoyment possible for all his family.
