LGV Driver Training Over 3.5 Ton

Large Goods Vehicle driver training replaces the old Heavy Goods training and now requires to be taken in two stages. Drivers must qualify to drive a rigid vehicle over 7.5 tons gross weight prior to progressing to training and tests for articulated vehicles.

McPherson Training can provide training to the standard required to pass the Driver Standards Agency test. Training for 3.5-ton rigid licence, now called the ‘C’ licence but previously known as class two licence, is completed in a Volvo FL6, under the watchful eye of one of our dedicated driver trainers.

The driving course is intensively structured with the aim of imparting to trainees the range of skills and knowledge, plus confidence, to achieve a pass on the DSA administered test. The course lasts five days with the test on the last day. It covers all elements of on and off road control, with particular emphasis on close quarter manoeuvring.

The transport industry is currently short of an estimated 100,000 drivers throughout the UK so if you are over 21 this is an excellent way in which to get qualified and start a new career.

However, before you can begin your LGV training it is essential that you have taken and passed the DSA Theory Test for large vehicles.
