Mechanical handling equipment, when used correctly, is safe and efficient.  Used incorrectly it is an accident waiting to happen.  Misused, or incorrectly used mechanical handling equipment is one of the major causes of work place accidents.  If an accident happens in your premises you may be required to prove to HSE that your staff are correctly and properly trained. McPherson Training is able to provide FLT training in a dedicated training facility or a range of mechanical handling training on-site at your location.  This has a number of advantages for both the operator and his employer.  The HSE recommend that mechanical handling training should be divided into three stages:

• Basic Training where the operator gains the basic skills and knowledge required for safe operation.
• Specific Job Training where the operator gains knowledge of the workplace and experience of specific to type equipment.
• Familiarisation Training involving operation on the job under close supervision.
  

By training on-site using the employer’s equipment both the first two requirements are met.  Further tailoring of training can also result in the third item being included.
 
Mechanical Handling Training can be provided for the following:

• Industrial counterbalance lift trucks
• Industrial reach trucks
• Rough terrain counterbalance trucks
• Telescopic materials handler.
• Side-loading lift trucks
• Pedestrian controlled lift trucks
• Mechanised working platforms
  

All trainer/examiners are registered with National Operators Register and training is compliant with HSE HSG6 requirements.
 
Course length varies between one and three days depending upon the number of persons under training and if the course is an initial or refresher operator course.
