Being 4th a fourth generation family business, we are absolutely committed to the future.
Over the last few years, we have been developing and using technologies to reduce our carbon emissions from our operations and create a more sustainable business offering to our customers and partners that meets present needs without further compromising the future.
The decarbonising journey begun with McPherson in 2020 with the design and adaption of the first three reduced emissions Bio-Gas trucks which arrived in 2021.
2021: New to fleet, 3 x Iveco Strallis 44 tonne GVW Bio-Compressed Natural Gas vehicles. These vehicles are fuelled by gas created from the digestion of Distillery biproducts such as Distillers spent grains, pot ale and pot ale syrup. This gas is therefore a true Bio-Gas and forms a circular economy when used in this manner. Each vehicle saves around 92% of CO2 emissions using this gas when compared to a similar diesel vehicle.
These vehicles are amongst the first true Bio-Gas vehicles to run at 44 tonnes maximum gross weight with the addition of a small pusher axle mid chassis.
By 2023 we will have 12 Bio-Gas fuelled 44t vehicles operating in various roles within the fleet saving around 1860 tonnes of emitted CO2 per annum. These vehicles are equipped with full hydraulics and Dangerous Goods carrying ability to allow full utilisation.
2022: Introduction of HVO fuel into areas of the business. The HVO (Hydro-Treated Vegetable Oil) that we source is a synthetic fuel made from recycled oils such as vegetable oils and animal fats. This is further refined to give a clear fuel with better properties than conventional fuels with co. As it is derived from renewable sources this fuel delivers a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions when compared to fossil based fuels.
2023: New to fleet and the first in Scotland. 1 x Volvo FM Electric 44t MGW tractor unit. This vehicle has been designed to our exacting specifications for safety and innovation. With zero operating emissions this vehicle this vehicle sets the new standard in innovation and sustainability. Fully electric driveline with 490 KW of electric power and 2300 nm of torque available from the very start this vehicle represents the current era of heavy traction.
As a business, we will continue to pursue the next alternatives in vehicle fuelling. By doing so, we will ensure we are offering sustainable and practical options to suit customers present and future needs.
